  • GFZ - German Research Centre for Geosciences

The EleMap Lab is devoted to in situ analyses of minor and trace elements in minerals and other geological materials. We have a Teledyne Analyte Excite 193 nm excimer laser coupled to a Thermo Scientific iCAP RQ quadrupole ICP-MS and a Thermo Scientific iCAP TQ quadrupole ICP-MS, which can filter masses through the use of a reaction cell (MS/MS). The Laser system delivers a fully homogenized laser beam which ensures uniform ablation across the entire range of spot sizes with ns pulse length (< …

  • GFZ - German Research Centre for Geosciences

The UV fs laser ablation lab at HELGES is a state-of-the-art facility for the in situ micro-scale analysis of isotope ratios and element concentrations in a wide range of solid geological and environmental materials (rocks, minerals, soils, meteorites, biogenic silica- (phytoliths) and calcium carbonate-producing organisms).
Femtosecond lasers ablate with minimal thermal heating to the surrounding area of the crater due to the short laser pulse length compared to the photon relaxation …

  • UP - University of Potsdam

The LA-ICP-MS facility at the University of Potsdam is used for in situ microanalysis such as precise U-Th-Pb age determination of accessory minerals (e.g. zircon, monazite, and apatite) and trace element analysis of silicate materials (e.g. garnet, zircon) in geological samples. Quantitative analyses can be obtained for most elements in the mass range from ⁷Li to ²³⁸U at low ppm level and spatial resolutions of 15 to 150 microns. Samples can be epoxy mounts (2.54 cm or 0.8-1 cm in diameter) …

  • TU - Technische Universität Berlin

LA-ICP-MS is a micro-destructive technique which enables the in situ analysis of elements and isotope ratios across the periodic table at very high scanning speeds and with very low detection limits. The 8900 ICP-QQQ is able to utilize reactive cell gases to resolve difficult spectral interferences. Samples: rock sections (max. 10 x 10 cm), 1 and 1/2 inch rounds; Spot size: 1 - 155 μm
