The ElMiE Lab is a research-oriented facility and part of the Helmholtz center in Potsdam. The ElMiE – Lab offers the sample preparation and analyses of geological or environmental inorganic samples for element concentrations and mineralogy of inorganic materials. Laboratories and instruments associated with the ElMiE Lab include the XRD, XRF, …

The ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer) allows simultaneous detection and quantification of most elements in solutions at concentrations ranging from a few ng/g (ppb) to hundreds of µg/g (ppm). We analyse a wide selection of environmental samples for element concentrations, ranging from rock, soil, river water, seawater, and plant materials. We routinely analyse and quantify the following Elements: Li, Be, B, Na, Mg, Al, Si, P, S, K, Ca, Sc, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, …

  • GFZ - German Research Centre for Geosciences

The ICP-OES Lab focusses on the determination of elements in the concentration range from μg/l to g/l. It is suitable for analyses of large sample throughputs due to low analysis time. The configuration of the 5110 ICP-OES with vertical dual view (VDV) allows both radial and axial views of the plasma with a vertically arranged torch. Simultaneous measurements of all elements of interest ensure analyses with low sample amounts at low measurement duration. The ICP-Expert software offers …

  • FU - Freie Universität Berlin

An Avio 220 Max device is used for the determination of various elements such as heavy metals (Zn, Pb, Cd, Cu, etc.), alkali and alkaline earth metals etc. in aqueous solutions.

  • UP - University of Potsdam

ICP-OES is an analytical method for the determination of elements in the concentration range from μg/l to g/l. The ICP-AES laboratory uses an ICP5100 with vertical dual view (VDV) from Agilent. By using a vertically arranged torch is it possible to observe the plasma in both directions axial and radial. The simultaneous measurement of all elements of interest enables a short measurement time. This allows a high sample throughput and the processing of very small sample volumes as well.

In the geochemical laboratory, individual chemical parameters of the soil samples are investigated. Element determination is done using ICP-OES. Among other things, there are determined:
    1) the pH values with the glass electrode,
    2) the lime content with the Scheibler apparatus,
    3) the conductivity of the soil,
    4) the cation exchange capacity (abbreviation: KAK, T-value), and
    5) the mass of the organic fraction of a sample by measuring the ignition loss in the muffle furnace.
