The TOC-L Shimadzu device measures total organic carbon (TOC).

A LECO Truspec CHN + S-Add-On Elemental Analyzer is used for solids, aqueous and paste-like samples to determine carbon (C), hydrogen (H), nitrogen (N) and sulphur (S).

An Avio 220 Max device is used for the determination of various elements such as heavy metals (Zn, Pb, Cd, Cu, etc.), alkali and alkaline earth metals etc. in aqueous solutions.

A laser diffractometer LS 13320 PIDS from Beckman-Coulter is employed for single samples to determine the particle size within a range between 17 nm to 2000 µm.

A Bartington MS2 device is used to determine the magnetization of sediment and solids. Sediment cores (sensor MS2C) and single samples with defined volume can be analyzed (sensor MS2B).

The lab is equipped with various instruments for the preparation of sediment and soil samples.

The Minolta CM 2500d is a portable e spectrophotometer, which is applied to determine the colour composition, the colour spectrum and colorimetric data of solid samples. The device works within 360 nm to 740 nm with a resolution of 10 nm.

A mobile XRF device from Thermoscientific Niton XLt3 is applied to determine major, minor, and trace element contents (K, Ca, Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ga, As, Se, Br, Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Pb, Th, U) in solids (non-destructive).

A Rigaku Miniflex 600 is used for solids (sediments and rocks; powdered samples) to determine (semi-quantitatively) the mineral composition of calcite, quartz etc.
