Description

The preparation laboratory includes facilities for the extraction of the soluble organic matter from sediments, sedimentary rocks, coals, microbial cultures and water samples using flow-blending-extraction and ultrasonic-extraction tools. Further, medium pressure liquid chromatography is used to separate extracts into different fractions of polarity (aliphatic, aromatic and polar NSO fraction) as well as preparative HPLC and GC.

Instruments

Gas chromatography - specifically gas-liquid chromatography - involves a sample being vapourised and injected onto the head of the chromatographic column. The sample is transported through the column by the flow of inert, gaseous mobile phase. The column itself contains a liquid stationary phase which is adsorbed onto the surface of an inert solid. GC - Gas Chromatograph
The High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) is one method for identifying various phytoplankton groups in water samples by using pigments as chemotaxonomic markers. HPLC also has a wide variety of applications in separation, identification, purification, and quantification of various compounds. Analytical Methods

Leaching with fresh solvent cycled multiple times through a fine solid sample contained in a porous thimble. The extraction solvent is cycled in a continuous-discrete process by distillation, condensation and siphoning. Extracted material accumulates in the distillation flask.
