Description
Tectonics and Sedimentology are separate, but complimentary subfields of Geology. Whereas tectonics is the study of Earth’s structure, its motion and its mechanical properties, Sedimentology deals with changes in Earth’s surface and atmosphere based on records of erosion and deposition. The laboratories of the Tectonics and Sedimentary Systems Group include a preparation lab, a fission track laboratory, a workshop, analytical equipment used for sediment geology and a biomarker lab. The fully equipped mineral separation lab is run in cooperation with the disciplines of hydrogeology, mineralogy and geochemistry. The Facilities of the Tectonics and Sedimentary Systems Group are a laboratory complex and consist of several sub-modules. For more details, please see the individual websites.
